Ekiti 2018: The inside details of how Prof. Eleka's aspiration tears Ikere apart

The push for Prof. Olusola Eleka, the Ekiti state deputy governor, to succeed his boss, Governor Ayodele Fayose, may have drawn discordant tones beyond the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
From the very moment some stakeholders of the party in the state adopted Prof. Eleka as the 'sole governorship' candidate, the relative harmony among members has waned considerably. Overtime, dissenting voices repudiated attempt to 'impose' Prof. Eleka on the party and unless a reconciliation is achieved, the discord in PDP in the state put to doubt the party's continuous hold of Ekiti state.
But away from party logjam, feelers have hinted that Prof. Eleka has struggled to rally his kindred to back his aspiration for the top seat in Ekiti state. Prof. Eleka is from Ikere, a notable town in the state. But easily noticeable is the disparity of views shared by indigenes of the town to his (Eleka) aspiration for Ekiti top job.
While some believed Prof. Eleka's antecedent is not convincing enough to warrant their supports for his new pursuit, others are considerate of their ties to rally around him– a seemingly different posture that is causing ruckus in the ancient town.
Before 2014 when Mr. Fayose brought him as his deputy, Prof. Eleka, a professor of building technology, is a quiet person and hardly known in his hometown and even as the next-in-line to the state government, his contributions to the town is least visible.


Aside that, a local leader told our reporter that those reluctant to back Prof. Eleka's aspiration from the town are wary of Governor Fayose, who is rumored to have disguised him (Eleka) for his 'third term' plan.
Gov. Fayose resorted to back his deputy for the governorship seat after attempt to get legal sanction for him to re contest, considering his argument that he wasn't allowed to complete his first term.
"We (Ikere people) want a governor but not a 'puppet' and that explains the scanty support Prof. (Eleka) enjoys in the town today. Have you seen Prof. Eleka without Governor Fayose holding his hands in the town? That is a show of what we should expect if he ever wins. “The local leader who chooses not to be named for fear of retribution noted.
"However unfortunate is that, this has polarized our town like never before because his (Eleka) people have chosen to antagonize any person who have expressed genuine concerns on his aspiration and are reluctant to show support.  Though, many people are avoiding admitting it, but Olukere (Ikere monarch) ordeal has no other root than his reservation to single out Prof. Eleka for support when other sons' from the town also shared the same aspiration."
The local leader, however, described Prof. Eleka as a 'good' man but was quick to express his disappointment that the deputy governor could not bring to bear this attribute to sustain the age long mutual relationships in the town.
Another Ikere indigene that identified himself as Tope, regretted the ruckus the governorship aspiration of Prof. Eleka has generated in the town, musing that "if Governor Fayose imposed him (Eleka) on the PDP, must it be forced on Ikere people? Why is everyone who is no with Prof . Eleka today in the bad book of the government?”


Mr. Tope observed that while Prof. Eleka is a respected indigene of the town. He blamed the overbearing manner which Governor Fayose adopted in pushing his (Eleka) aspiration, for the misgivings exercised by the people of the town. Even more, he argued the suitability of Prof. Eleka for Ekiti top job, saying "unless the rumours that he is running to fulfill his (Fayose) 'third term' agenda, because no one has been convinced of his (Eleka) leadership capacity."
"Ekiti is in dire straits and taken decision based on sentiments can't be patriotic. He (Eleka) is my brother from the same town but my fear, which may as well be shared by some others, is that he doesn't possess enough capacity to resolve the impasse confronting our dear state. Governor Fayose wants to use him fulfill his mission of continuity of poverty and penury’.
"Even as a lecturer at OAU, it isn't a secret that his laxity and poor attitude to responsibilities ridded him the confidence of his colleagues to entrust him with HOD, not to talk of higher task and it raises doubts that he could be a good governor for a poor state like Ekiti."
But dismissing insinuations raised against the aspiration of Prof. Eleka, a staunch PDP member from Ikere, Olutosin Joseph, attributed most of the negative rhetorics to 'adversaries', absolving the deputy governor from any crisis rocking the town.
Mr. Joseph who placed Prof. Eleka as the ideal successor to Governor Fayose, said as someone who has attained the summit of academic pursuit, Ekiti stands to benefits in no small measures from his experience, adding that the deputy governor is better positioned to continue from where his principal, Fayose, left governance.


"Don't be swayed by our adversaries. They are perplexed that this gentleman (Eleka) is well positioned for the governorship seat," he said.
When asked on why the deputy governor has not intervened on the ongoing trial of the monarch of the town, Mr. Joseph, who initially was evasive, said "it's something I can't categorically say but he (Eleka) must have his reason(s) and that shouldn't be enough to blame him for the crisis in the town."
Apparently moving to repair hostile relationships in the town, IDF, Ikere Developments Forum, had recently met in Lagos to reach a consensus on who should the town throw-up for the governorship contest.
However surprisingly, the town resolved to back two aspirants– from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). But the tone of the forum, which draw membership from eminent Ikere indigenes, seem swayed to Dr. Wole Oluyede, who was unanimously considered ahead of three other aspirants under the APC, unlike Prof. Olusola Eleka, who is the sole governorship aspirant under the PDP from the town.
"Eventually, the Ikere Development Forum (IDF) leadership unanimously agreed that Dr. Wole Oluyede be presented as the preferred and consensus candidate amongst the aspirants," the communique released after the meeting reads partly.
It was gathered that majority of IDF members are not happy with the way Prof. Eleka 'armtwisted' the Ogoga to support him despite the seemingly lack of support from Ikere people.
However, IDF was swift to accommodate Prof. Eleka in their resolution based on his adoption by Governor Fayose, noting that "For the PDP in particular, IDF leadership considers the support which Prof. Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola enjoys from the Ekiti State Governor, who also doubles as the leader of the Party as a privilege and honor.
"As such, IDF leadership pleads that he should be given and accorded every necessary support and encouragement at his Party’s primary election."
Some contestants from Ikere like Aare Muyiwa Olumilua, Kola Alabi have staged clear protest against IDF position on the matter.

Cbn to Disburse smaller Naira Denomination

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has began the disbursement of smaller naira notes to traders in order to improve circulation of N5, N10, N20, and N50 in the market.

The acting Director, Currency Operations Department, CBN Mrs Priscilia Eleje said this at a publicity campaign on “Disbursement of Lower Denominations of the Naira’’ in Wuse Market, Abuja on Tuesday,She said the campaign was targeted at the informal sector, especially traders in markets with the aim of increasing the circulation of the smaller units of the naira to make doing business easier.

According to her, the Federal Capital Territory will be used as the pilot stage of the new campaign and if successful, will be replicated nationwide. Eleje said the new strategy would ensure that traders desist from hiking prices of goods, simply to avoid looking for “change.’’ According to her, new naira notes will be distributed to traders within Wuse and Garki Markets and others through their associations.

"The notes we will be disbursing are mints. This money is not meant for you to keep in your house or to go and spray at weddings or sell. “We have our operatives everywhere and whoever is caught selling these notes will be prosecuted.“

These notes are meant to be used for daily transactions so that when a customer comes to the market, you won’t tell him or her that you don’t have change,’’ she said. Eleje said that the money was not free, adding that rather, the CBN through the various associations in the market would exchange lower denominations for larger ones.Also, the Deputy Director, Currency Operations Department, CBN Mr Vincent Wuranti, lectured the traders on ways to handle and maintain the naira notes.

He urged all users to desist from squeezing the notes, writing on them or using dirty hands to handle the notes. Wuranti also urged the public to inculcate the habit of using wallets in order to safeguard the naira and allow it to have a longer life span. The Chairman, Wuse Market Association, Mr Rapheal Okoro, said insufficient lower denominations of the naira was one of the greatest problems being faced by traders.

'Ignore Their Antics, Asiwaju Tinubu is Very much welcome in Ondo State'- Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu

The attention of the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has been drawn to News reports in some media of 26 February 2018 in respect of statements made at the Meet the Governor programme, which was part of the activities to mark the anniversary of his first year in office.
According to these reports, the Governor is quoted to have said that the reconciliation committee, led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has no business in Ondo State and that the state ‘does not need a troubleshooter’.
Another headline stated, ‘Why Tinubu can’t come to Ondo’, suggests that Asiwaju Tinubu is not welcome in Ondo State.
 It was also reported that Governor Akeredolu ‘denied Boroffice as senator representing Ondo North’.
Arakunrin Akeredolu would like to clarify any potential misunderstandings that could arise from these false and misleading reports.
He wishes to make it clear that the Asiwaju Tinubu-led reconciliation committee is welcome in Ondo State at any time.
 The committee will, however, find that it has no work to do in the state, as there is peace and stability in the Ondo State APC.
The Governor never doubts the ability of Asiwaju Tinubu to successfully carry out this onerous task of uniting our great party and putting it in good stead for the task ahead.
  The Governor does not deny the legitimacy of Senator Ajayi Boroffice’s position as the senator representing Ondo North senatorial district.
However, the point Governor Oluwarotim Akeredolu, SAN, made was that he knows of only two APC senators in the state who are currently working with the state government for the upliftment of Ondo State.

8 Nigerian Soldiers Missing, 3 Wounded During Boko Haram Ambush

Eight soldiers are missing, while three others were injured when Boko Haram members ambushed troops on the Damboa-Sabon Gari Road in Borno State on Monday.

Military sources told SaharaReporters that one Army gun truck was also taken away by the sect's members.

President Buhari Declined signing Peace Corps Bill

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined his assent to the Peace Corp Establishment bill passed by the National Assembly in 2017.

In a letter read by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Tuesday at pleanary, Buhari cited security concerns and financial implications amongst reasons for his decision.

The bill if assented to Nigerians believe will help address the challenges of unemployment in the country.

Silverbird Award :Fayose isn't worthy of it, he bought it with Ekiti Money.

A Peoples Democratic Party youth organisation in Ekiti State under the umbrella of Ekiti PDP Youth League has described the award of Silverbird TV Man of the Year 2017 given to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State as a "Cash and Carry" award which was purchased using millions of Naira belonging to the poor masses of Ekiti people.

In a release signed by the duo of Adekunle Agboola and Sunday Awe, the youth described Governor Fayose as not only 'unfit' for such a coveted award, but has not done anything impressively as a governor to justify his been accorded such an award going by his abysmal performance in all areas of human development over the last three years.

The youth however challenged the management of Silverbird Organisations to tell Ekiti people and indeed Nigerians what parameters were used to justify the award on Governor Ayodele Fayose.

"The award in itself is lack in integrity, the process was also frothy and ultrapadded going by the character of a person the award was given to.  Evidence have also shown that Governor Ayodele Fayose purchased the award with a whopping sum of ₦15 millions belonging to the poor masses of Ekiti State."

"This is a man who has almost ran Ekiti State aground due to his unfriendly economic policies, wasteful spending and extravagant lifestyle. Should a man that is owing workers several months of unpaid salaries and pensions be considered for a man of the year award? Should a man who has not employed a single youth into the state civil service be considered for a man of the year award? Should a man who have shot down all the tertiary institutions in the state be considered for a man of the year award? Should a man who have chosen to be hostile and unfriendly to investor be considered for a man of the year award?"

"These and many more are questions for Silverbird Organisations to answer and even go forward to convince the good people of Ekiti State why Fayose deserved such an award.

"While we respect the independence of Silverbird TV as a respected media organisations who is at liberty to carry out her business the way it feels, it is also good for the management of the organisation to refrain from such ludicrous personality that can easily removed the love many Nigerians have for it over the years."

BREAKING NEWS: Fayose Loots Civic Centre's Building Materials To Construct Own Events Centres

As usual, Governor Ayodele Fayose has resorted to the  looting of the left-over building materials, including stone blocks, at the abandoned massive Civic Centre in Ado-Ekiti and taken them to his personal numerous events centres  and lock-up shops scattered all over Ado Ekiti, the state capital, to complete his buildings.
According to some of the people engaged in the night theft, Fayose is hiding under the fresh escavation going on within the vicinity of the abandoned civic centre structure to engage KOPEK trucks at night to loot the abandoned building materials and take them to various sites where he is now using the stolen  strong blocks for the construction of his own properties.
One of the people engaged in the night theft told Ekiti Periscope:  "You will see those strong blocks there if you get to the building under construction opposite the Local Government Service Commission beside his newly constructed Vet office.
"This did not start now; it began when he was laying the foundation of his two buildings along Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti."
Fayose is not new to looting  government property and converting them to personal use.
During his first term, he looted Ikogosi Resort which his predecessor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, rehabilitated and equipped to start business operations.
Ikogosi drew visitors from far and wide as a tourist centre at the time until Fayose was elected governor.
As governor, he looted the tourist attraction, removing furniture items, fittings and electronics and carted them to equip his personal hotel called Spotless Hotel at Onigari area of the state capital.
About two years ago, Fayose returned to Ikogosi Resort again in the dead of the night to cart away furniture, electronics and fittings and took them to his Ibadan relaxation centre.
It will be recalled that an online publication, The Monitors, at that time broke the news of night looting of Ikogosi Resort.
According to the report at the time, Ikogosi residents noticed the movement of four trucks escorted by security vehicles  to the facility at 11.30pm. They kept vigil at strategic points along Ikogosi Resort until the four trucks returned with all of them fully loaded with stolen furniture, electronics and fittings.
By the time workers resumed duties in the morning, all the electronics, air conditioners and other items, were gone.
The tourists' centre that former Governor Kayode Fayemi built to a world standard and had started receiving visitors around the world is now in ruins, wearing the shadow of its old standard after massive looting and abandonment after Fayose sent the operators of the facility packing.
