Setting the Record Straight: Why Akinlayo’s Desperate Allegations Against Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju Are Doomed to Fail

Setting the Record Straight: Why Akinlayo’s Desperate Allegations Against Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju Are Doomed to Fail

The recent media theatrics by Hon. Kolawole Akinlayo, following his decisive defeat at the APC primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, represent nothing more than a desperate attempt to manipulate public perception after failing to secure the mandate of the people. It is unfortunate, though not surprising, that a sitting lawmaker would choose to resort to falsehoods and petty innuendo rather than accepting the verdict of his constituents.

For the sake of clarity and to protect the integrity of the process, we must set the record straight: Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju, a man of integrity and deep respect for the rule of law, was never in violation of any electoral provision. His resignation as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters was officially effective March 31, 2026. This fact is a matter of public record, widely reported in the *Nation* newspaper on April 1, 2026, and further substantiated by his extensive interview with the *Tribune* on April 26, 2026. These documents are readily available; had Hon. Akinlayo been a serious contender rather than a purveyor of assumptions, he could have easily accessed facts of this letter through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Instead, he chose the path of character assassination, attempting to discredit a candidacy that has received the overwhelming nod of stakeholders, party delegates and members.

It is laughable that Hon. Akinlayo, who lost in all three local governments within the constituency, now claims the election was "fraught with irregularities." One must ask: if the process were truly flawed, why did he wait until he was soundly rejected by the party members to lodge these complaints? His hypocrisy is laid bare by his own history, a man who reportedly entered the House of Representatives through the back door now assumes everyone else must follow the same dishonorable path.

While Akinlayo busies himself with ghost-chasing in the media, the reality on the ground is starkly different. We are reminded of the reports of cultists, thugs, and the use of weapons he intended to use to disrupt the election in areas where he feared defeat. These were not the actions of a democratic aspirant, but of someone desperate to subvert the will of the people. It remains a matter of public concern that those arrested for these planned violent disruptions are currently in Afao prison, and we urge the Inspector General of Police to expedite the investigation into Hon. Akinlayo’s involvement in these crimes.

In stark contrast, we commend Dr. Ayodeji Dada, a fellow contestant who has shown true statesmanship by congratulating Hon. Olarewaju and pledging his support to ensure the APC’s victory in 2027. Dr. Dada understands that politics is about service, not a "do-or-die" affair.
Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju remains focused on the task ahead, bringing his legislative mastery and executive experience to bear for the benefit of the people of Moba, Ilejemeje, and Ido-Osi. No amount of mudslinging from a rejected politician will distract from the mandate he has rightfully earned. We advise Hon. Akinlayo to take a leaf from the book of his co-contestants, embrace the result, and join the party in the critical work of securing victory for our great party in the upcoming general elections.

The era of back-door politics is over; the era of authentic, grassroots-supported representation has begun.

Reaffirming their commitment to the current administration, the community pledged their unalloyed and continuous support to Governor Oyebanji, emphasizing that they stand by him firmly as he steers the affairs of Ekiti State to greater heights.

#EkitiDecides2026: Reps Candidate Olarewaju Congratulates Oyebanji, Hails Re-elected Governor as ‘Jinx Breaker’

#EkitiDecides2026: Reps Candidate Olarewaju Congratulates Oyebanji, Hails Re-elected Governor as ‘Jinx Breaker’

Following the landmark outcome of the gubernatorial election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ekiti North Constituency II (House of Representatives), Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju, has warmly congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his historic and resounding re-election victory at the polls.

In an official statement, Olarewaju, a former presidential aide, described the Governor’s sweeping triumph across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards as a well-deserved validation of his people-centered, impactful governance over the last three and a half years.

Hon. Olarewaju particularly lauded Governor Oyebanji for breaking a major political jinx in Ekiti State. Since the state’s creation 30 years ago, no single democratically elected governor had successfully completed two straight four-year terms back-to-back under the same administration, a trend Olarewaju noted had previously hindered long-term infrastructural planning and continuity.
"By securing this second consecutive term, Governor Oyebanji has rewritten the political history of our state," Olarewaju remarked. "This record-breaking feat will not only sustain the socioeconomic progress recorded so far but will also heavily enhance the progressive values of the APC and maximize human capital development across the state."

Reacting to the final results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where Governor Oyebanji pulled a landslide **319,224 votes**, the House of Representatives hopeful noted that the figures represent the highest number of votes ever recorded by a winning gubernatorial candidate in the history of Ekiti State. According to him, this landslide victory serves as an undeniable testament to the Governor's soaring popularity and deep connection with the grassroots.

Olarewaju further extended his congratulations to the First Lady of the State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, noting that her retention of the role for an uninterrupted eight-year stretch is a major win for grassroots welfare. He emphasized that this continuity would allow her office to expand on life-changing initiatives targeted at women, widows, orphans, people living with disabilities, and vulnerable children.

The former presidential aide also commended the national and state leadership of the All Progressives Congress. He recalled that the APC had already made history in the state when Governor Oyebanji successfully succeeded his predecessor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, marking the first time a ruling party smoothly transitioned to its own successor in Ekiti. With this latest election, the party has broken yet another glass ceiling.

While thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, smooth, and orderly democratic process, Olarewaju declared the general populace of the state as the true beneficiaries of the election.

"This unprecedented victory is not just for the Governor or the party; it is a victory for assured sustainability, policy consistency, and tangible development in Ekiti State.
The Ekiti of our collective dreams is now fully on track to becoming a reality with this second-term mandate secured in the bag," he concluded.

“I will work harder, smarter and serve you better”, Oyebanji tells Ekiti people

“I will work harder, smarter and serve you better”, Oyebanji tells Ekiti people

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Sunday thanked Ekiti people for re-electing him for a second term of office during Saturday’s governorship election in the state, promising to work harder and serve them better in his second term.

Governor Oyebanji also said his election is a validation and general acceptance of the economic policies and reforms of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, which freed resources for sub-nationals to deliver on their promises to the electorates.

The Governor stated this on Sunday in his acceptance speech, at the Gvernment house, Ado-Ekiti, a few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced him winner of the Ekiti Governorship election with a total 319,224 votes.

“There is no doubt that this is an unprecedented electoral outcome in the history of our State, and indeed Nigeria , You have spoken loudly and unequivocally and I have heard you clearly.

“We have heard your voice. We have accepted the challenge which this unity mandate has thrown upon us Your electoral preferment of us is truly humbling, and we do not take it for granted.

“I can only assure you that the best has just begun. We will rededicate ourselves even more strongly in implementing our shared prosperity agenda. We will work harder and smarter to serve you better”, he added.

Oyebanji, maintained that President Tinubu’s reforms which freed resources to sub-nationals provided the necessary platform for his government to attend to the yearnings of the citizens, adding that the increased federal allocations to states, empowered his government to fund key projects and social programmes which had greatly impacted the lives of the citizens.

The Governor used the opportunity to further commend President Tinubu for his foresight in assenting to the amended electoral law, which, according to him, has brought about a seamless outcome of the election, adding that the amended law is a direct improvement in the electoral climate and the legal framework previously known to the country.

Governor Oyebanji commended residents of the state for their renewed confidence in him as expressed through the fresh mandate given to him. He promised to rejig his efforts on the poverty alleviation programmes of his administration that will tend towards making lives better for the people irrespective of their status in the society.

The Governor disclosed that he has extended olive branch to the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Wole Oluyede and his African Democratic Congress (ADP) counterpart, Ambassador Dare Bejide by personally calling them and hope to visit them later to discuss on how they can join hands with him to move the state forward.

According to him, “a while ago, Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR called to congratulate me after the official announcement of the 2026 Ekiti Governorship election. I have also called the candidates of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Wole Oluyede and African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ambassador Dare Bejide.”

The governor, who hailed the voters for his huge volume of votes totaling 319,224, winning in all the 177 wards and in almost all the 2,245 units, and in the 16 local government areas of the state, added “there's no doubt that this is an unprecedented electoral outcome in the history of our dear state and indeed Nigeria, for a party to have won in all the wards in a particular state, I’m not sure it has happened in the history of this country.

“It is not just a watershed, it is a remarkable shift in the political culture of Ekiti people, unlike the previous electoral cycles which were marked with disturbing violence and apprehensions, the election has come and gone without a single violent incident, with this, it has taken a new course and it's the dawn of a new era where consensus building, peace and harmony has become the trading currency of our political engagement.

“I want to specially thank the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for his fatherly support. This victory is a validation of his administration and a vote of confidence in him by Ekiti people. I have no doubt that a better outcome will be replicated in the January 2027 Presidential election. I want to commend him for the foresight that has brought about better electoral practice and procedures through the amended electoral law.

The seamless outcome of this election is a direct result of the improvements in the electoral climate and the legal framework.

“I am grateful to my brother-governors across Nigeria, especially the Progressive Governors’ Forum under the leadership of the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodima, for their support and encouragements. He stated.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Fayemi Media Office, Fayemi said the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, in which Governor Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all sixteen Local Government Areas of the state, was a resounding vote of confidence that reflected the high regard in which Ekiti people hold his leadership.

“I join other well-meaning Ekiti citizens and friends of our dear state in congratulating Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his decisive re-election. This victory is a powerful statement by our people that they recognise and appreciate purposeful governance.

The former governor commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the largely peaceful conduct of the election, and urged the governor not to relent in the task of consolidating the gains already recorded in his first term, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development.

Fayemi also extended a hand of fellowship to the candidates who contested the election, including those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties, urging them to see the outcome of the election as the verdict of the people.

“Elections are contests, not wars. I urge the other candidates who contested this election to take the lessons from it in good faith and join hands with Governor Oyebanji in the task of building our state.

‘’Ekiti is bigger than any one of us, and it is only by working together, across party lines, that we can give our people the development they deserve and which they have consistently asked for at the polls,” he stated.

He further called on all Ekiti people, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic or religious leaning, to rally round Governor Oyebanji and support his administration in the new term, stressing that the unity and cooperation of the people remain indispensable to the state’s progress.

“Our state has always thrived when we set aside our political differences and worked together for the common good. I therefore call on all Ekiti sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora, to continue to support Governor Oyebanji and his administration as he begins this new term, so that together we can sustain the legacy of good governance that our people have come to expect of Ekiti Kete,” Fayemi added.

I call on all youths to reject violence, vote-buying, hate speech, misinformation, and any act capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election. Let us instead demonstrate the values of integrity, tolerance, and mutual respect for which Ekiti people are known.

Regardless of political affiliation, we must remain brothers and sisters before, during, and after the election. Our collective desire should be a peaceful, credible, free, and fair electoral process that reflects the will of the people.

As young people, we have a duty not only to vote but also to serve as ambassadors of peace in our various communities and polling units. Let us be vigilant, law-abiding, and respectful of constituted authorities throughout the electoral process.

The future of Ekiti is bigger than any individual, group, or political interest. Therefore, let us continue to work together in the spirit of unity, progress, and development for the benefit of present and future generations.

May tomorrow's election be peaceful, credible, and successful.

May God bless Ekiti State.

May God bless the youths of Ekiti State.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Arewa Community in Ekiti State has declared its support for the re election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, citing what it described as his inclusive leadership and commitment to the welfare of both indigenes and non indigenes resident in the state.

The endorsement was made during an interactive session organised by the Governor of Kaduna State and National Chairman of the APC Campaign Council for the Ekiti Governorship Election, Senator Uba Sani.

Government House Reporter, Yemi Olajutemu, reports that Senator Uba Sani, who was represented by the Kaduna State APC Chairman, Mr Atiku Sankey, commended Governor Oyebanji for promoting unity and ensuring that residents, irrespective of their ethnic background, enjoy equal opportunities and protection.

He said the governor had consistently demonstrated fairness and inclusiveness through policies that recognise the contributions of northern residents to the development of the state.

Mr Sankey cited the allocation of land for the Hausa Market in Ado Ekiti, the appointment of northern residents into political offices and their employment in the state public service as practical examples of Governor Oyebanji's people centred leadership.

He urged members of the Hausa Community and other ethnic nationalities of northern extraction resident in Ekiti State to reciprocate the governor's goodwill by voting massively for his re election.

Also speaking, prominent northern political leaders, including Senator Binta Garba, Mrs Yetunde Adeniji and Senator Yerima, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Hausa Matters Mr Hussein Bawa appealed to members of the Arewa Community across the state to come out in large numbers and support Governor Oyebanji at the governorship election.

Leaders of various northern ethnic groups also shared testimonies on the impact of the governor's administration, describing him as a leader who has improved the welfare of non indigenes and created an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence in the state.

They said the administration had given every resident a sense of belonging, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation, and pledged the community's continued support for his government.

ZENITH LABOUR PARTY GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE STEPS DOWN FOR GOVERNOR OYEBANJI

Ekiti APC primary dispute: Appeal Court affirms Oyebanji's candidacy

Ekiti APC primary dispute: Appeal Court affirms Oyebanji's candidacy

Dismisses Olawumi's Appeal for being incompetent

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the candidacy of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State in the forthcoming governorship election as it dismissed the appeal by a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Abimbola Olawumi who challenged the outcome of the party's primary.

In a unanimous judgment on Thursday, a three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Adebukola Banjoko, held that the appeal filed by Mrs. Olawumi was incompetent.

The Court of Appeal found that the appellant's brief of argument was filed in contravention of the court's rules, having exceeded the numbers allowed and proceeded to hold that the appeal was unsupported by any arguments and therefore incompetent.

Justice Banjoko, who read the lead judgment, allowed the objection raised by the respondents - the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Governor Oyebanji to the competence of the appellant's brief of argument, filed on April 30.

The judge held that Mrs. Olawumi's brief violated Paragraph 14(a) of the Electoral Proceedings Practice Direction 2023.

She held that the brief, having been filed in violation of the court's rules, is incompetent and liable to be struck out.

Justice Banjoko further held that with the appellant'a brief struck out, the appeal becomes unsupported with any arguments, making it incompetent as well and liable to be dismissed.

She rejected the appellant's request that the court invokes its power under Section 15 of the Court of Appeal Act to activate its trial jurisdiction to hear the case on the merit on the grounds that the substance of the case revolves around the the internal screening and eligibility process of the party.

Justice Banjoko held that Mrs. Olawumi's case would have also failed even if her brief was not incompetent because issues in dispute are internal affairs of the political party and the suit statute barred, having been filed out of time as found by the trial court.

She dismissed the appeal and upheld part of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja which earlier held among others, that the suit was filed out of time, that issues raised were not justiciable and that Oyebanji was duly nominated to contest the June 20 governorship election as the candidate of the APC.

The Court of Appeal allowed the cross-appeal filed by Governor Oyebanji to challenge part of the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice Peter Lifu.

Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi, who read the lead judgment, held among others, that the trial judge was in error when he found that the first cross respondent (Mrs. Olawumi) was an aspirant.

She resolved the sole issue identified for determination against the Mrs. Olawumi and set aside the finding by the trial judge that she is an aspirant within the contemplation of the constitution and electoral act 2022.
