EKSG Debunks Kayode Ojo’s claim of N80m fire station donation to Ekiti Airport

Ekiti State Government has dismissed claims by an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, that he donated a fire service station worth N80 million to the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport project.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, described the claim which was made during a press briefing by Kayode Ojo’s campaign organisation in Ado-Ekiti earlier in the week, as untrue, misleading, and designed for self-glorification.

Oyebode who spoke at the 2025 Press Week and Annual Public Lecture of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, also urged journalists to always scrutinize claims made by political office seekers and separate the truth from falsehood before going ahead to publish or broadcast as news.

Oyebode said the state government has a record of total spendings on the airport project, adding that there is no record of any donation of a fire station by Engr Ojo.

“I can say categorically here that the claim by Engr Ojo on that fire station is incorrect, false and misleading. Available records in the Governor’s Office and the Office of the Technical Adviser on Airport Project show that the claim of false.

“The only individual who made personal contributions to the Airport project is our revered leader and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN). In spite of the fact the elder statesman didn’t want his donations to be made public, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, had at different forum acknowledged Aare Babalola’s contributions.

“The records of project and spending at the airport are very clear. The project has remained a product of the state government’s vision to grow our agro-economy and open Ekiti to the world.

“The claim by Engr Ojo is baseless and there is no record of such contribution either by the immediate past administration or the incumbent administration. And if indeed Engr Ojo made such a contribution, let him come forward with evidence of the contribution, including the receipt and the name of the person that received the donation on behalf of government.

“What I do know and confirm from the office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Airport Project, AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd) is that the fire station was completed at the airport last year July, fully paid for by the Government.

The Governor’s aide also challenged Ojo and other aspirants in the governorship race to present tangible records of their contributions to Ekiti’s growth and development prior to their aspiration. He also urged them to toe the path of honour by making claims they can substantiate and make their campaign issue- based.

“Many of those jostling for the governorship seat today have not contributed meaningfully to the development of their local communities, let alone the state. It is not enough to make unsubstantiated claims during electioneering; the people deserve to see real evidence of service and contribution.

“At this critical period as the state moves closer to the governorship election, we appeal to journalists to always fact-check politicians’ claims before publication.” , Oyebode added at the event which was also attended by former Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu; Special Adviser on Information to the Governor, Rt Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, representative of Oluyin of Iyin, Oba Adeola Ajakaye and other dignitaries.

EFON DAY 2025 HIKE AND LEISURE FIESTA: MORE THAN A LEISURE EXPERIENCE

The 7th Edition of the Hike Ekiti Mountain Safari, themed ”Hike and Dine in the Clouds, ” by the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, was held on April 21, 2025, at Sagbonke Hill (the mountain of clouds) in Efon Alaaye. At this breathtaking destination, hikers experienced mist-covered trails and conquered high-altitude peaks. Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji flagged off the event, which drew over 2000 hikers and nature enthusiasts.

The programme was designed to promote eco-tourism and showcase the natural beauty of Efon's mountainous landscape. Efon Alaaye is more than just a town. Providence has uniquely positioned it with its peculiar landscape. It is an entry point and gateway to Ekiti State, the Land of Honour. Describing tourism as a vital sector of the economy, the Governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to repositioning Ekiti’s tourism sector to world-class standards.

This landmark event brought Sagbonke Hill to the limelight, igniting the interest of visitors, investors, and tourism experts. Sagbonke Hill is a breathtaking natural beauty and a tourism, religious, and economic blessing.

Building on this momentum, Thursday, 21st August, 2025 was another set day for the Hike and Leisure in the Clouds fiesta organised by the Efon Alaaye Development League as part of activities to mark 2025 Efon Day. Defying the light showers, young and old hikers gathered in the premises of the ancient palace of His Royal Majesty, Obalufon Alayemore Alaaye of Efon kingdom, at the Erekesan Square, Efon Alaaye, as early as from 7:00am. The medical team of the Ekiti State Ministry of Health was present for basic health assessment of hikers before the exercise and provided medical care as necessary safety guide during the hiking.

Equipped with backpacks and walking sticks, the trek began through the famous and spiritual Oni River ( known widely for its healing and therapeutic power since the days of Apostle Ayo Babalola).

Participants briefly stopped at the river, and Prince Adeyemi-Adejolu narrated the story about the river. The journey continued, and the ascent of the hill began some kilometres after the river. It was a great adventure to pass through the hilly bush path, and it took about one hour and 30 minutes to arrive at Sagbonke Hill.

Indeed, nature is kind to Efon-Alaaye. The amphitheatre-like terrain of the hill peak is well-tended by farmers. Hikers had a helicopter view of Efon Alaaye and neighbouring towns like Erinmo, Erin Ijesha etc from the hill.

The natural amphitheatre provided a naturally air-conditioned and lush environment that allowed me to appreciate the unique environment and the natural endowments. Descending the hills through the old road leading to Federal Government Girls College, Efon Alaaye was equally inspiring.

The area is blessed with rocks, natural springs of water and vegetation. There were sounds of gushing waters from the rocks and grounds oozing water out too, with birds singing and the sounds of creeping creatures. It is indeed the display of splendour in God’s manifold creative power!

The second but real hiking experience to the mountain of clouds is memorable and life-changing. Sagbonke Hill has become a go-to destination for older adults and young ones interested in hiking for health reasons.

The 2025 Efon Day Hike and Leisure event's success demonstrates the potential of tourism to boost the local economy and promote cultural heritage. It is my pleasure to have been part of the real hiking event in company of visiting and experienced hikers/tourists from Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt.

Programmes of this nature will hopefully contribute significantly to the economic and social development of Efon Alaaye and Ekiti State. It is a worthy experience that should be repeated as often as practicable.

Group commends Governor Oyebanji for leveraging on one of the legacies of former Governor Kayode Fayemi to Increased Ekiti IGR

The foremost Ekiti State grassroots sensitisation and mobiliser movement for good governance has commended the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji for intuitively and creatively leveraging on the existing long term sustainable development plan of the immediate Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi to significantly increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the State to ranked among the best in the country.

In a statement released by the group, the group showered encomium on the immediate and present administration for increasing the Ekiti State Internally Generated Revenue from N650million to N2.3billion monthly according to the circular released by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) at its 155th meeting at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja which ranked Niger State and Ekiti State first in the 2023 Annual Growth Rate Ranking.

We will recall that on the 4th of October 2022, the progressive administration of former Governor  Kayode Fayemi has unveiled a 30-year development plan for Ekiti state, to have a continuity in governance that would better the lives of the people.

Kayode Fayemi had instituted a long term development plan of 2021 - 2050 rooted in the Development for the next 30 years, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), development and job creation, human capital development, agriculture and rural development etc. The result of which are manifesting in Ekiti today.

The sporadic increase in Ekiti State IGR has been attributed to the continuity of good governance in prudent management of the State resources, financial re-engineering, deployment of digital tools and motivation of revenue collection agency by Governor Oyebanji.

The group- *OYEBANJI STREET VANGUARD* (_OSV_) hereby commended the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, and his entire cabinet members, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Inland Revenue Service (EIRS) and the entire good people of the state for this feat.

Finally, the group in a statement released by the Convener enjoined all Ekiti people to continue their support for this political stability built on continuity of good governance as represented by the present administration without going back to our Egypt.

FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER!!!

HC Ade

I must express my deepest disappointment at the recent press release credited to the leaderships of students’ structures in Ekiti State, fronted by Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, condemning alleged “unwarranted attacks and harassment of students” by the Director-General of the Bureau of Community Communications, Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso.

I do not have any personal issue with NANS as a body, which has over the years played a formidable role in advancing the interests of Nigerian students. Indeed, as someone who has served in different student leadership capacities myself, I understand the weight of student voices in shaping society.

However, in this particular instance, the leadership of students' structures in the state has allowed itself to misrepresent facts, trivialize issues, and reduce unionism to a spectacle of tokenism.

For context, just like other groups, individuals, and lovers of culture who gathered at the 2025 Udiroko Festival, the Bureau of Community Communications (BCC) also had its assigned space for public engagement. It was within this space that representatives of the students' bodies approached the BCC team to request for "drinks", part of items that were meant to be distributed as souvenirs to members of the public.

Unfortunately, the manner of this request was unruly and confrontational, carried on the wave of the “aluta” spirit we often see in student unionism. When it escalated to an attempt at forceful collection, the BCC staff in charge of the items intervened to caution them. It was at that point the DG became aware of the situation, and in her usual manner of zero tolerance for disorganization, she stepped in, cautioned both parties, and restored calm.

That was all. No harassment. No intimidation. No inhumane treatment. To now see a dramatic press release flying around with wild allegations is not only dishonest but deliberately malicious.

What makes this laughable is that the same associations that issued this release are often the first to run to the DG whenever they need assistance. And in most cases, they never leave empty-handed. This raises a fundamental question of why would the same office you consistently approach for support and mother-to-son dialogue suddenly become your antagonist, except there is an ulterior motive?

This, sadly, reflects how some student leaders have reduced the noble heritage of unionism to mere tokenism, seeing every engagement as an opportunity to extort or issue threats for financial or political gain. That is not leadership; it is opportunism.

Student leadership has always been about ideas, courage, and service. But what we see today is a tilt towards aggression, manipulation, and reckless name-calling. When you use every crooked avenue to malign reputations or extract concessions, you are not building the future, you are mortgaging it.

The DG, Hon. Mary Oso Omotoso, has been one of the strongest supporters of students and youth bodies in Ekiti State. She has provided consistent backing, resources, and access, always encouraging a constructive model of engagement. It is unfair and shameful for anyone to attempt to paint her otherwise just because she insisted on order at a public event.

If we must criticize, let it be on the basis of truth and integrity, not on sensational press statements meant to score cheap points or impress political backers. Students and youth leaders must resist being used as pawns in the hands of those who wish to settle political scores by dragging innocent public officials into unnecessary controversies.

The DG remains committed to bridging communication gaps between government and communities, including students. She will continue to engage youth constituencies respectfully but firmly, without yielding to intimidation or blackmail.

Finally, let me address the so-called 48-hour ultimatum. It is, quite frankly, laughable. Governance is not run on the threats of street ultimatums, and the office of the DG cannot be stampeded by grandstanding. If you believe in engagement, you seek dialogue; if you believe in intimidation, you issue ultimatums. The latter has never worked, and it will not start working today.

The doors of engagement remain open for genuine student leaders who wish to build, not destroy. But if some prefer to turn student activism into a marketplace of threats and smear campaigns, then they should be ready to bear the full weight of the consequences of their recklessness.

Student voices are powerful and should be used to shape society positively, not for tokenistic battles that destroy credibility. If union leaders must lead, let them do so with wisdom, facts, and integrity.

Ogun APC Ratifies Suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel, Hon. Kunle Folarin for Anti-Party Activities

In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State hereby affirms the suspension of two members of our party in Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin, by their respective wards for alleged anti-party activities. The State Chairman of the party, Chief Yemi Sanusi, chaired the meeting held on August 19, with sixteen members present. The meeting considered the reports of the following Disciplinary Committees investigating allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities against the two members in Ward 4 and Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government, respectively.

Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government, set up a Disciplinary Committee on the alleged misconduct bordering on anti-party activities committed by Senator Gbenga Daniel. Similarly, Ward 6, Sagamu Local Government, set up a Disciplinary Committee on the allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities allegedly committed by Hon. Kunle Folarin. They wrote to the members under investigation, inviting them to the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be heard and allowed to present evidence in their defense or request pardon from the party. However, both members failed to respond to the invitations extended to them in writing, failed to provide a written defense, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be given the opportunity to defend themselves.

In view of their deliberate and unexplained absences, the Committees deliberated as scheduled, heard from the available witnesses, considered the available documentary evidence, and deliberated on the allegations. In addition to the above, the Committees received notice that the members under investigation had been harassing party members and warning members against cooperating with the Committees, and further that the members under investigation had been using their statuses within the party to pressure party members to withdraw the petitions against them. In view of this development, the Committees resolved to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and to eliminate interference by the members under investigation.

Upon due consideration, the Committees suspended the members indefinitely, pending further investigation and the outcome of the Committees' inquiry. Copies of the letters of indefinite suspension had been sent to the State Chairman for consideration and approval of the State Working Committee. The suspensions were based on the members' failure to cooperate with the investigation and their attempts to pressure party members to withdraw petitions against them.

The SWC has ratified the suspensions. The meeting demonstrates the party's commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding its constitution.

E-signed,

Nuberu Olufemi,
Director of Publicity, Ogun APC.

EKITI 2026: EKSU ALUMNI PURCHASE FORM FOR OYEBANJI

In anticipation of his running for a second term as the Governor of Ekiti State under the umbrella of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2026, the alumni Association of Ekiti State University, EKSU, under the aegis of EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO has purchased both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Representatives of the group were at the national secretariat of the Party in Abuja on Monday to pick the forms in fulfilment of their promise to give maximum support to the Governor, who is also an alumnus of the University.

In the words of the Immediate Past President of the alumni, Engr Dipo Bamisaiye, not minding the cost of the form, it was their desire to ensure that Oyebanji, who had not disappointed them during his first term in office, serves the second term as the Constitution approves.

"It is our mantra that one of us is better than none of us, and as such, we have associated ourselves keenly with the second term ambition of the incumbent Governor, who has neither foresaken nor disappointed us in the course of his first term in office."

The alumni group said they were able to raise N75 million for the purchase of the form, which they claimed was the first phase of their fund-raising.

EKSU may appear as not so big at inception, but now we are a great institution and this is even made possible by Governor Oyebanji who has not despised his little beginning as one of us. If he had done so much in the first instance, we are assured he will do even more in the second term."

"The fact that we, the alumni have raised such money to pick the ticket for the Governor who is one of us, will show the people in the state that Mr. Governor is admired and loved by us."

On what the members of the alumni will further do to ensure the victory for the governor, both at the primary and general elections, Engr Bamisaiye, who is also the Director General of the EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO, said they would mobilise themselves and the good people of the state, further pooling resources to support him.

While receiving the representatives of the group into his office, the National Organising Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, praised the representatives for their good intention and support for their colleague, saying they had come in good time to collect the form and would have enough time to complete it.

He added that in his opinion based on what he had heard so far from the people of the state, the governor had performed creditably well to earn a second term in office.

Those in the delegation with Engr Bamisaye include the former Global President, Dr. Oludotun Adetunberu and the current Vice President, Mrs. Hellen Folasade Olaofe Olusegun.

Others are Chief Jide Awe, Comrade Segun Dipe and Barrister Bayo Idowu, all members of the Alumni Association of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado Ekiti.

Ekiti Govt, ENSHET Global Sign MoU for Agro-Forest Investment Expected to Create 1,000 Jobs

The Ekiti State Government has signed a 30-year Memorandum of Understanding MoU, with ENSHET Heights Global for the development of economic trees on a 100-hectare portion of the Ogbese Forest Reserve, marking another giant step towards sustainable forest development and boosting the state’s agro-economic value chain.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ekiti State Government by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. (Mrs) Habibat Adubiaro, in the presence of the Executive Secretary, Forestry Commission, Mr. Sunday Adekunle while the
Chairman, Mr Oladapo Olasope, signed for Enshet Heights Global Ltd, as witnessed by Dr Tunmise Ayodele, MD/CEO Enshet Heights Global Ltd.

Under the agreement, the state government is granting ENSHET Global access to 1,500 hectares within the Ogbese Forest, out of which 100 hectares will be dedicated to the cultivation of high-value economic trees for commercial purposes.

The initiative, which is to be supervised at no cost by officials of the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, mandates ENSHET Global to cultivate only approved species and prohibits the planting of Indian hemp or any unlawful crop.

According to the terms, the investment will run from 1st August 2025 to 31st July 2055, subject to review every five years and renewable based on satisfactory performance.

Harvesting of any mature trees will be carried out jointly upon confirmation by an independent valuer and the Forestry Commission, who will issue the necessary permits.

It was agreed that any attempt to remove trees without due process or the state’s percentage entitlement will be deemed a breach and sanctioned in line with the Ekiti State Forestry Laws.

Both parties are committed to maintaining confidentiality, acting in good faith, and abiding by Nigerian laws regarding dispute resolution, which shall be settled through arbitration in Ado-Ekiti if required.

The MoU also includes provisions for termination should either party default on agreed obligations or fail to perform satisfactorily.

Importantly, arbitrary termination, especially after ENSHET Global has made substantial investment, would require the state to refund the investment as valued by jointly appointed independent assessors

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director/CEO of Enshet Heights Global Ltd., Dr. Tunmise Ayodele, explained that the project is designed to develop, finance, cultivate, regenerate, process, and market cassava and its value-chain products; including cassava flour, starch, sorbitol, and ethanol; on up to 1,400 hectares of degraded portions of the Ogbese Forest Reserve.

He added that the initiative will be implemented alongside the planting of various exotic and indigenous tree species to support environmental sustainability.

According to Dr. Ayodele, the project is expected to directly employ over 1,000 Ekiti citizens, attract increased foreign direct investment and ultimately place Ekiti State on the global economic map, adding that the initiative is in complete alignment with Mr Governor’s shared prosperity agenda.

Ekiti to Host New Forestry Research Institute Outstation, Boosting Research and Job Creation

Ekiti State is poised to host a new research outstation for the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), a move expected to significantly boost forestry research and economic development in the state. This initiative stems from a collaborative effort between the Ekiti State government and FRIN's management. A key inspection was conducted in Odoowa, Ijero Local Government Area, led by Dr. Tayo Oyelowo of FRIN, to assess the site's suitability for the proposed facility.

In a move to attract a greater federal presence in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has officially approved the establishment of the FRIN outstation in Odoowa. This approval underscores the state's commitment to harnessing its rich forestry potential. The establishment of this outstation is a crucial step towards unlocking the immense potential of forestry to significantly boost the state's Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) in the future. Beyond economic benefits, this initiative is also a testament to the governor's commitment to climate change mitigation and the long-term sustainability of Ekiti's environment.

The new FRIN outstation, a federal government research institution under the Federal Ministry of Environment, will serve as a hub for research and development, helping the state to better manage its forest resources and contribute to a greener future.
The establishment of this outstation is a direct outcome of a high-level meeting held in Ibadan on April 28, 2025, where Ekiti State officials, including Dr. Akinyemi Akinyugha, the Technical Advisor on Green Economy, Dr. Olly Owen, the Technical Advisor on Forestry and Climate Change, and Mr. Sunday Adekunle, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, met with FRIN's Director-General, Professor Zachariah Buba Yaduma. FRIN, Nigeria's premier government agency for forestry research, has over seventeen regional stations but none in Ekiti State, making this a pivotal development. The new outstation will focus on sustainability, conservation, and the utilization of forest resources, aligning with FRIN's core mandate.

The proposed outstation will bring significant benefits to Ekiti, including job creation, capacity building, and enhanced environmental consciousness. It is also expected to become a "Green Hub" for nearby towns and villages, contributing to the restoration of degraded landscapes, tourism, and the eventual development of a seed bank. The Ekiti State government is required to meet several conditions to facilitate the project, including providing a minimum of 10 hectares of arable land, furnished office accommodation, and essential utilities like water and electricity.

During the site inspection in Odoowa, the FRIN team met with Mr. Sunday Adekunle, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, and the Olowa of Odoowa. The Olowa has reportedly promised to provide 20 hectares of land and a farmhouse, exceeding FRIN's minimum requirement and positioning Odoowa as a strong and preferred site for the outstation's location. Odoowa's offer reflects a robust commitment from the local community.

Oyebanji at Pa Fatoba’s Burial, Assures Resumption of Work on Ado-Ijan-Aisegba-Road

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has given assurances that work would soon resume on Ado-Ijan-Aisegba-Omuo Road stating that the state Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has resolved all issues that led to the temporary abandonment of of the road project by the contractor.

Governor Oyebanji gave the assurance on Friday during the burial service of the late Chief Mathew Fatoba, the father of his Aide-de-Camp, held at the Holy Trynity, Anglican Church, Aisegba-Ekiti.

The Governor said the road had earlier been awarded and contractor had been mobilized to site before work was stalled due to certain challenges, which have now been addressed to ensure the contractor’s return to site.

While commending the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the State, Governor Oyebanji said the President’s policies have helped in addressing infrastructure gaps as well as promoting economic development and welfare of citizens.

"I greet our fathers in the Lord and the deceased family, I assure you that I see the road leading here from Ado- Ekiti. It is part of our efforts. The Federal Government has awarded the road and contractor has moved to site, but they left because of one reason or the other. But by His grace, the Lord has helped us to settle it, very soon the contractor will go back to site".

Speaking about the late Chief Mathew Fatoba, the Governor noted that the deceased lived a fulfilled life to a ripe old age, adding that this was evident in the virtues of integrity, hard work, and humility that he instilled in his children.

He noted that the virtues exhibited by Pa Mathew Fatoba clearly reflected in the children of the deceased, particularly his Aide-de-Camp, Felix Fatoba, whom, he described as a loyal, disciplined, and committed officer, with a track record of excellence and integrity in the course of his duty.

The Governor said "No matter how old our aged can be, we never want them to leave us, if you look at the programme, you will see that Baba spent 110 years, he tried and we should appreciate God together".

Earlier in his homily, the Bishop of Ekiti Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Andrew Olusola, who described the death of Pa Mathew Fatoba as the glorious transition of a faithful servant who devoted his life to God, family, and community, noted that living to the age of 110 was not only a testament to God’s grace but also an example of a life well spent in humility, righteousness, and service to humanity.

He admonished everyone to reflect on their lives and the legacy they will leave behind, urging them to prioritize eternal values over material pursuits, which according to him, the greatest inheritance one can give is a life of virtue and godliness, as demonstrated by the late centenarian.

The Anglican Bishop who urged the congregation to pray for the Governor, hailed him for the various development projects in different parts of the state as well as the level of peace and prosperity within the state.

OYEBANJI STREET VANGUARD Hails Governor Oyebanji's Groundbreaking Initiatives to Combat Food Inflation in Ekiti State

A famous grassroot mobilization group for the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji - OYEBANJI STREET VANGUARD (OSV), has commended the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, his entire cabinet members especially the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security who doubles as the Chairman of Food Security Committee and the State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Honourable Aribasoye and the entire Ekiti State for the laudable and legacy-making efforts of the present administration in squarely and genuinely addressing the hydra-headed food inflation in our dear State, yesterday during the official commissioning of ‘Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlet’ and “Ilu Eye Aggregation Hub'.

The initiative, according to the amiable Governor, was as a direct outcome of the recommendation of the Ekiti State Food Security Committee, which was constituted under the leadership of Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security and the Chairman.

In Nigeria, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), in a recent release says, post-harvest losses are estimated to be around 50% of total agricultural produce. This translates to a staggering N3.5 trillion annually, which is roughly three times the country's five-year federal agricultural budgetary allocation of N1.13 trillion.

The losses however varies by crop type, with:
- Grains - 5-20% loss
- Fish - 20% loss
- Tubers, fruits, and vegetables - 50-60% loss

These losses are attributed to several factors, including, Inadequate storage facilities, i.e lack of proper storage infrastructure leading to spoilage and waste, poor handling practices, inefficient food processing methods etc, the factors this current administration is using its policies on Agriculture to address swiftly.

According to His Excellency, Governor Oyebanji during the historic commissioning, the "Ilu Eye Aggregation Hubs as first option off-taker have successfully aggregated 715 metric tons of white beans, 239.167 metric tons of rice paddy, 101.54 metric tons of maize and 1,716 bags of garri all produced within Ekiti.

"Ilu Eye Aggregation Hub", a registered company, buys food commodities from farmers in the state and store, while the “Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlet” is to sell the food items to citizens at affordable prices. This is massive and well thoughtful, to say the least.

In a statement released by the Convener of the group yesterday, he advocated for more and consistent improved budgetary allocation to the Agriculture and Food Security segment of the State for continuous funding of this laudable initiative to jump-start the economic growth of the State and ensure the replication of the programme in all our 16 Local Governments and 28 Local Council Development Areas.

However, the group urged all our retailers to key in and patronise this initiative of the State Government in arresting the hydra-headed food inflation cum high cost of living in our dear State and remember that it is in seamless continuation of a laudable program like this we can bannish poverty in our State.

Ekiti State can only get better with political stability, leading to economic growth built on continuity and consistency of policies like this.

One good term they say deserves another.
